Life With A Grey Wolf 26DBH

After one season of pulling the Grey Wolf 26DBH I knew I wanted something better than mirrors to see what was going on behind the trailer.   The Grey Wolf 26DBH is already wired for the Furrion Back Up Camera or Furrion Rear Observation System.   If you are going to invest the money anyway go ahead and get the Rear Observation System.   It is my understanding that the back-up camera does not work that well while traveling and is only good for backing.  The wife came through at Christmas and gave me the Furrion Rear Observation System.   It works perfectly and allows me to see everything that is going on behind the trailer.   There are lines on the monitor that tells you when it is safe to pull back in if you pass something on the highway.                      

While prepping food on the counter near the sink we bumped the cheap faucet handle and it cracked and came off.   While looking for ways to get under the sink to remove it and replace it with a new one I decided to remove the outside refrigerator and work through the outside access.   With the outdoor access the change was simple.   It could have been a lot more difficult if I had to go through the cabinet doors or drawers.   The fittings on the new faucet are brass and not plastic like the one I removed.   The new faucet came from Lowes and cost $99.00.       

While out on our first trip for the 2018 season the Dometic air conditioner started acting up.   It would be running along great then it would just shut down and stay down for several hours.   When we got home I called the dealership and asked if I could bring it over for service.   The service manager said sure.   I also asked what the estimated turn-around time was and was flabbergasted that his answer was from two to four weeks.   He said he had about forty units ahead of me.   Ok, now I have owned many automobile and several houses, and I can get something serviced on them in two to three days.   Four Week?   Well after about two weeks I called for an update and they had not even looked at it yet, but a technician had the ticket on it.   Bummer!   So, at four weeks I decided to go to the dealership for an update.     The service manager pulled up the service request on the computer and fumbled around in a file box f...

If there is one thing I have learned owning a travel trailer it is don’t rush the set-up or break down. The first lesson I learned from this was leaving the Wilmington, NC KOA in a thunderstorm and in my haste I forgot to insert the L-pins on my Husky Center Line Hitch.   I knew something was wrong when we hit a dip on an overpass and our truck and trailer bounced like crazy.   Half way home we stopped for gas and the spring bars were pointing 90 degrees from the tongue of the trailer.   This means we drove about 55 miles with no sway control whatsoever (dodged that bullet).   My second mistake while rushing was connecting the trailer to take it home for a bath and crossed the positive and negative wires on the battery.   This blew a fuse on the back of the Furrion entertainment center and two blown fuses in the distribution center.   We did not realize that anything was wrong with the distribution center until the next morning and everything star...

Grey Wolf 26DBH Holding Tanks … As most of you know travel trailers usually have three holding tanks: fresh water, grey water, and black water. Fresh Water   -   The 26DBH fresh water tank holds 46 gallons and is used when you don’t have city water hook-ups.   One gallon of water weighs approximately 8 pounds, something to consider when you are concerned about total weight of your RV.   When full the 26DBH fresh water tank holds about 368 pounds of water.   I only keep about 5 gallons of water in my fresh water tank mainly for flushing the toilet for travel stops. I suggest you run the fresh water tank near full or near empty.   The fresh water tank does not have baffles to stop liquid surge so a partially filled tank allows the water to move back and forth and could cause trailer sway.   There are plenty of good articles on the internet about how to keep this tank sanitized. Outdoor Kitchen … Here are some things that may help you with the outdoor kitchen of the Grey Wolf 26DBH. If your 26DBH has an outdoor kitchen it consists of a suburban two burner stove and a small beverage refrigerator (120V only).   The stove slides out from under the refrigerator and then plugs into a propane line under the coach. The gas line for the stove curls under and tucks into the stove.   It will drop down while traveling and you will not be able to get the stove out unless you reach under the slide and carefully lift the gas line.   This has happened to me several times so be mindful and don’t pull on the slide to hard or you may damage the hose. If your dealer did not tell you, there is a valve on the gas line under the coach.   It serves two purposes: 1. to feed gas to the stove and 2) to lock the quick connector so it will not pull loose.   I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out why I was not getting propane to my stove and after c...

Grey Wolf 26DBH Slide-Out … Without me going into technical details about the slide-out, Forest River has some great videos that will help you along http://www.forestriverinc.com/videos.aspx .   Your 26DBH has the Lippert Schwintek in-wall slide-out system.   Important:   Make sure your travel trailer is level before attempting to use the slide-out.   You will damage it if not.   Insure that nothing is in the way of the slide room on the outside and the inside before operating it.   I have seen several travel trailers with damage to the slide room outside wall where the operator did not make sure they had clearance when opening the room. To make sure I have room to open the slide-out I stand perpendicular to the RV with the slide room in and touch the room with my finger tips and extend both arms straight out by my side.   If anything is within the space of my extending arms I know I may not have enough room to open the slide.
